Friedman Industries Sustainability Statement

Friedman Industries understands our important role in support of the long-term sustainability of the metals supply chain and manufacturing industries. Metals producers are investing significant resources towards decarbonization of their processes. Our customers, metals consuming manufacturers, are focused on consumer demand for sustainable products.

The U.S. metals production and supply chain industries represent global leading, low, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity. Through our fifty plus year history we have been committed to providing our clients with the most efficient supply chain for their products.

Toward that end, we have embarked on a baseline GHG emissions accounting initiative, in accordance with the GHG Protocol, for purpose of further identifying opportunities for more efficient processes and service for our customers.

Through this initiative we have:

  • Established a GHG emissions inventory process and accuracy, a baseline calendar year of 2022, and a follow up year of 2023.
  • Engaged our team in understanding the process and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Engaged our team in understanding the process and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Through two years of accounting, we have established:

  • An average direct emissions intensity of approximately 0.495 mtCO2e/100 tons of steel processed for our customers.
  • Renewable power supply of approximately 22% across our enterprise in most recent year.

In the coming years, we will continue refining this process with objectives to:

  • Identify opportunities represented by both process and technology to improve on our energy efficiency and subsequent reduction in GHG emissions.
  • Be a valued supplier for our customers in support of their supply chain carbon footprint data and target requirements.
